The Visual Artists Association of Central Greece was founded in 1999 in Lamia and consists of artists living or coming from central Greece. Serving its basic principles, the Association has organised exhibitions, lectures, happenings, educational excursions, and fine art interventions both outdoors and indoors. Since 1999 it has organised the artistic workshops of the Municipality of Lamia, thus creating a cradle of fine art education for young people. At the same time, it contributes to the artists' unification as well as to the promotion and expansion of Fine Arts nationwide. It cooperates with fine art institutions and associations and it contributes to the aesthetic reform of public spaces. It has also proposed the following: establishing a Fine Arts High School in Lamia, creating departments of the Higher School of Fine Arts in the region of Roumeli, supporting the Modern Arts through proper infrastructure and enriching it with the works of contemporary artists.
